CIAA files case against office assistant for amassing Rs 89.85 million illegally

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today filed a charge-sheet at the Special Court against an office assistant at the Land Revenue Office, Chabahil for amassing illegal property worth Rs 89.85 million.

The CIAA has sought a fine of Rs 89.85 million from office assistant Rajendra Basnet, who was earlier suspended.

According to the anti-draft constitutional body, while Basnet had earned around Rs 7.4 million from legitimate sources, including his salary, he has accumulated more than Rs 90.73 million since he joined public service in 1987.

The CIAA has also sought confiscation of Rs 89.85 million, and a fine of an equivalent amount from him.

The CIAA has also named his wife Sita Basnet, mother Tuku Kumari Basnet and nephew Kripa Basnet as defendants.
