At least 29 dead as restaurant collapses in China

BEIJING: A restaurant collapsed on Saturday in the city of Linfen, north China’s Shanxi Province, local authorities said.

At least 29 people died in the accident, which happened at around 9:40 am (local time) in Xiangfen County, CGTN reported.

Rescuers are still searching for those trapped in the debris of the collapsed two-story building.

Rescuers in orange overalls and hard hats combed the crumbled ruin of the building, images on the CGTN website showed, with a decorative painting seen on one of the few walls still intact.

CGTN said 700 people were involved in the rescue operation.
