KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has collected signatures of lawmakers close to him in an effort to prove his majority in the Parliamentary Party.

The signature campaign was initiated after lawmakers advised Prime Minister Oli to show his majority.

Lawmaker Krishna Rai claimed that PM Oli has the majority in Nepal Communist Party (NCP) parliamentary party.

Rai added that they would prove that PM Oli enjoys the majority in the Parliamentary Party.

Lawmakers on Wednesday suggested PM Oli to prove his majority to ensure political stability in the country saying that this is not the time to divide but be united.

According to Rai, more than 60 lawmakers gathered at the Prime Minister’s Official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday to extend support to PM Oli.

Lawmakers claimed a total of 125 federal lawmakers, including that of National Assembly, are in support of PM Oli.

The signature campaign comes at a time when the NCP is holding the meeting of its Secretariat on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, the disgruntled faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has followed-suit by initiating signature campaign of lawmakers.

This means that both the factions are hell-bent on proving their majority. “We, too, have initiated a signature campaign to prove our majority,” a lawmaker from the leader Nepal camp said insisting anonymity.

Senior leader Nepal and party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has joined hands to oust Prime Minister Oli of late.

The signature campaign comes at a time when the NCP is holding the meeting of its Secretariat on Wednesday evening.
