Jhapa COVID-19 patient had attended Tablighi Jamaat in India

JHAPA: It has been revealed that the COVID-19 patient of the district had attended a Muslim religious ceremony in New Delhi, India.

The 50-year-old man of Barhadashi Rural Municipality of the district had attended Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz Mosque.

The mosque had organized a large congregation in March 2020, from 13 to 15 March, in the midst of a developing coronavirus pandemic, which turned into a hotspot for its spread in India.

The Ministry of Health and Population stated that the swab sample of the man was tested at the Biratnagar-based Koshi Hospital.

Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) was performed on him twice and the reports were negative. However, swab samples of three persons including the man were sent to Koshi Hospital for a test through Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method on Saturday.

It has been found that 11 Jamatis from Jhapa including the man had attended the religious ceremony. He had left for New Delhi on March 3 and returned Jhapa on March 11.

Locals said the man roamed freely and didn’t self-isolate.
