Landslides and floods disrupt traffic on major highways

KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy rainfall, landslides and flooding have disrupted vehicular movement on several major highways and road sections across the country.

According to Nepal Police, some highways have been completely blocked, while traffic has been restricted during nighttime on certain vulnerable stretches due to ongoing risks from landslides and road damage.

The Mechi Highway has been fully obstructed at Ilam Municipality-9 after rainfall turned the road muddy and unsafe for vehicles.

In Sindhupalchowk, the Araniko Highway has been completely closed following landslides at Jirokilo and Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.

Flooding has also blocked the Lamosanghu-Ramechhap road section at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 of Dolakha district.

Similarly, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 of Rasuwa has been cut off after the Trishuli River flooded and damaged the roadway.

Nepal Police said a dry landslide in Bagmati Rural Municipality of Lalitpur has disrupted traffic along the Kanti Highway.

In Makawanpur, the Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Kathmandu road section has been completely blocked after a landslide near Mahalaxmikhola in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality.

The Jajarkot-Dolpa road has also been obstructed due to flooding in Mulpanikhola, according to a police bulletin issued Friday morning.

In Myagdi, landslides at Sukebagar and Raghuganga have affected traffic on the Beni-Jomsom road section.
