Prez Bhandari’s advisor Pyakurel’s resignation approved

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has approved the resignation of her advisor on political, social and human rights issues, Sushil Pyakurel.

Amidst the controversial decision the government has been making on various issues related to human rights, Pyakurel, former commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission and the founder of Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) Nepal has decided to quit the advisory role at the President’s Office.

It is said that a human rights activist for more than 3 decades, Pyakurel was against the government’s role at nominating Agni Sapkota, one of the alleged of many murders during the Maoist conflict in Nepal, for the post of the Speaker of House of Representatives.

Issuing a press release, Pyakurel said he felt he has to offer more of his time to human rights and social justice movement rather than being confined to a formal role he had been executing so far.
