Biratnagar metropolis announces ‘lockdown’ from Tuesday

BIRATNAGAR: The Biratnagar Metropolis has issued orders imposing an indefinite ‘lockdown’ in Biratnagar beginning Tuesday morning to prevent and tackle the novel coronavirus spread.

A meeting held with the concerned stakeholders on Monday decided to go for a ‘lockdown’ until further notice, said Mayor Bhim Parajuli.

Parajuli said — barring essentials such as milk, pharmaceuticals, drinking water, daily commodities — all industries, factories, and market places will remain closed from tomorrow, adding, “The decision has been made to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

During the lockdown period, the metropolis will mobilize teams to minutely monitor the activities in Biratnagar.

He has also appealed to the people of Biratnagar to stay indoors during the lockdown.
