Nepal ranks 113th in global corruption rankings

KATHMANDU: Nepal has made improvements in its ranking in the list of corrupt countries.

In the Corruption Perception Index 2019 released by Transparency International Nepal here today, Nepal made a slight improvement by climbing down three positions in the CPI.

Nepal secured 113th position in a list of 180 countries of the world, scoring 34 points out of 100 points. Earlier in 2018, Nepal had secured 124th place with 31 points.

The improvement was seen as per the survey carried out by six organizations—World Bank, World Economic Forum, Global Insight, World Justice Project, Bertelsmann Foundation and V-Dem.

Denmark has been ranked the least corrupted country with 87 points. Likewise, Somalia is the most corrupt one with nine points. Bhutan has been listed as the least corrupted country in South Asia being placed in the 25th position with 68 points.

Similarly, India and China are placed in the 80th position with 41 points each. Sri Lanka has been ranked 93rd with 38 points, Maldives 130th with 29 points and Afghanistan 173rd with 16 points.

Acton against corruption, proactive judiciary and security agencies are attributed to helping Nepal progress on the corruption perception index, said Mukunda Pradhan, General Secretary of the Transparency International Nepal.
