Oli, Prachanda issue conflicting directives on Karnali dispute

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman KP Oli and Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda have issued differing instructions regarding the Karnali Province dispute.

In a letter to the Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, Oli, who is also the Prime Minister, has directed to appoint outgoing Chief Whip Gulab Jung Shah back to the position.

CM Shahi had taken action against Shah and made Sita Nepali the Chief Whip after Shah filed a no-confidence motion against him.

The no-confidence motion lodged against CM Shahi was rejected by a majority of lawmakers of his party on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, Prachanda instructed the Province In-charge to implement the agreement reached between him and Oli.

In the letter, Prachanda said, “During the meeting between the two Chairmen, it was agreed to withdraw or reject the no-confidence motion. It was also agreed that the issues related to the Chief Whip would be resolved by the province committee and the province government. I instruct you to implement this understanding and the sentiments and aspirations of our party’s Province Assembly members.”
