KATHMANDU: Traffic police has taken action against 20 individuals for charging the passengers higher transportation fare in public vehicles in Kathmandu.

Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) in Kathmandu acted on the complaints registered by the passengers on the traffic hotline 103.

MTPD Chief Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhim Prasad Dhakal informed that a total of 46 persons have been booked in the last three days on the charges of fleecing the passengers.

The traffic police masquerading as the passengers also caught the assistant drivers of the public transports red-hand while overcharging the passengers.

Police held them from Koteshwor, New Bus Park, Chabahil, Balkhu and Gaushala.

Likewise, the assistant drivers have been found to have sold the same ticket to two persons while some public transport staff had barred the passengers refusing to pay twice the normal fares from boarding their vehicles.

The traffic police have been stepping up actions against the erring vehicle operators.
