NCP Secretariat meeting undecided on MCC

KATHMANDU: A Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Saturday discussed a report present by a task force to study the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.

At the meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, most of the leaders were for amending the Compact before ratifying it through the Parliament.

However, no concrete decision was made, said Defense Minister and Secretariat member Ishwor Pokharel.

Chairman and PM KP Oli and Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had presented the report during the meeting.

The task force submitting its report on Friday had suggested not endorsing the Compact in a status quo. The report has suggested amending the Compact before endorsing it through the Parliament.

It should be noted the US officials have already made it clear that the Compact can’t be amended now.
