Blacktopping of Balewa Airport runway begins



BAGLUNG: The black-topping of the runway of Balewa Airport in the district has gained momentum.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has initiated the task of black-topping it with the aim of bringing the airport into operation round the year.

The government has allocated Rs 40 billion to this effect in the current fiscal year.

According to Dr Surya Pathak, lawmaker of House of Representatives from Baglung-1, Rs 30 billion will be allocated for the purpose in the next fiscal year.

CAAN has awarded the contract to the Kashthamandap Uma and Company JV, Balkhu to blacktop the runway for Rs 70 billion.

The runway with 700 meters in length and 30 meters in breadth will have to be completed by the second week of March in 2021, according to the contract.
