Prachanda-Nepal faction CC meeting to appoint Nepal as NCP chair

KATHMANDU:  The CC meeting called by the disgruntled Prachanda-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has started at Karki Banquet at Babarmahal in capital.

NCP Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leaders Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and central committee members of the party of its faction are participating in the meeting.

It is learnt that the CC meeting will pass a proposal to appoint party’s senior leader Madhav Nepal to the post of chairman by ousting another Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

Earlier, Prachanda-Nepal faction held a Standing Committee meeting prior to the CC meeting. The meeting had decided to oust another Chairman Oli and appoint senior leader Madhav Nepal as the party chair.  The CC meeting which is underway at Babarmahal will endorse the SC’s decision, said a SC member.

According to sources, the CC meeting will dwell on nine agendas including the appointment of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara as a Standing Committee member of the party.

Oli faction has already held its CC meeting at Baluwatar. It deiced to add new 556 CC members and form a 1,199-member General Convention Organizing Committee, claimed sources. Currently, the NCP has 446 central members.

It has also decided to hold the party’s general convention on November 18, 2021.
