Slim presence of women in Nepal Army

KATHMANDU: Nepal Army on Friday celebrated Army Day.

The national army celebrates the day on the auspicious occasion of the Shivaratri festival reaffirming its devotion to the people and the nation, reflecting its organizational unity, ‘characterized by patriotism and military professionalism’.

NA is an organization with a history of more than 200 years. But, the presence of women in the national army is very slim. There is around only six percent of women in NA.

Numerically, there are three Brigadier Generals, 13 Colonel, 28 Lieutenant Colonel, 132 Major, 150 Colonel, 83 Lieutenant and one woman Second Lieutenant in NA.

Likewise, NA has 190 Subedar Major, five Warrant Officer First Class, 23 Warrant Officer Second Class, Warrant Officer Second Class 107, Account Warrant Officer Second Class 17, Technical Warrant Officer Second Class 32, 131 Sergeant, 57 Sergeant Employee and Technical Sergeant 100 as women.

Similarly, the national army has 186 Corporal and 47 Corporal Employees among others as women.
