Nepal deports 53 foreigners from TIA over COVID-19 fear

KATHMANDU: The immigration office at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has so far deported 53 foreigners over COVID-19 fear.

They were deported in the past eight days from March 10-18 after the immigration office denied them entry to Nepal.

According to Chief at TIA Immigration Office Sagar Acharya, some of those deported failed to produce a health certificate mentioning that they have not been infected with COVID-19 while others arrived without a visa.

Among those deported, most of them are French and Chinese nationals.

According to the immigration office, seven each from China and France have been deported.

Likewise, six each from Japan and Britain, five from Australia, four from Bhutan and three each from the USA and the Netherlands were deported in the past eight days.

Similarly, two each from the Czech Republic, Italy and Israel and one each from Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Canada, Afghanistan and Mexico have been so far deported.
