ISLAMABAD: There has been a rise in cases of abductions and forced conversion of Hindu girls in Pakistan in recent times, reports have said.
In the most recent case, Mehak Kumari, 14, a girl from the minority community in Jacobabad district in the Sindh province, was kidnapped on January 15 and converted to Islam.
The minority group then took to social media to raise the issue as the media ignored the incident.
The group has created a page on Facebook – Pakistani Hindus Youth Forum (PHYF) – which, reports claim has already garnered over 30,702 likes.
A post on the page said that the Pakistani Hindus are facing serious religious persecution. It said that Mehak, 14, studying in grade IX, was kidnapped a few days ago.
According to reports, she was seen in Amarot Sharif with some mullahs, who claim that she fell in love with Ali Raza Solangi, a laborer, who is already married and has a child.
Posts on social media say that the girl has been converted.
This is not the first such incident in Pakistan, the group said adding that the list of minority community girls continues to be kidnapped and converted. Over 50 girls have been kidnapped and converted, according to a report on IANS.
