KATHMANDU: One thousand eighty Nepalis who were stranded in various countries due to COVID-19 pandemic have been rescued and brought to home on Sunday.
They have been brought to Nepal on chartered flights of different airlines.
Ten chartered international flights with the stranded Nepalis onboard took place at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Sunday.
Likewise, six bodies of Nepalis who died in foreign countries have also been brought to Nepal.
As part of rescue operations, Nepal Airlines brought 418 passengers (266 from Dubai and two corpses of Nepalis and 152 from Doha and two corpses of Nepalis).
Himalayan Airlines carried 310 passengers (155 each from Abu Dhabi and Doha). Malindo Air ferried 354 passengers from Kuala Lumpur.
Aircrafts of Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines have flown to Kuala Lumpur to pick up other stranded Nepalis, said the TIA Office.
Both airlines are scheduled to operate nine flights to rescue stranded Nepalis from various foreign countries on Monday.
