Divorce, rape cases on rise in Udaypur

UDAYPUR: Cases of rape and divorce are increasing each year in Udaypur, a district in State-1.

District Court’s registrar Dhan Bahadur Karki said till the end of the last fiscal year (July 15) the court registered 218 cases relating to divorce.

Similarly, there were 83 cases of rape till the same period. The annual graphs of cases registered in the court in the three consecutive years show that divorce cases are on the top followed by the cases of rape.

The court made this fact public during its public programme recently. Besides, the incidences of drug abuse and smuggling are the matter of concern in the district.

According to District Judge Deepak Khanal, lack of awareness and knowledge of law are realised as among the causes behind the rise in such cases. In view of another district Judge Tirtha KC, poverty, lack of knowledge and social customs and misconducts in some cases have functioned as catalyst for the incidences. In the last fiscal year, the court had settled 659 (59 percent) cases against the target for 64 percent.
