KATHMANDU: Russian Ambassador to Nepal Aleksei Novikov paid a courtesy call on National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina on Tuesday.
During the meeting held at the office of Chairman Timilsina in Singha Durbar, they discussed issues related to diplomatic relations, parliamentary relations, the impact of coronavirus, infrastructure development and trade and investment partnership.
During the meeting, Chairman Timilsina paid tribute to the Russian citizens who died due to the coronavirus infection and wished a speedy recovery to those infected.
Saying that the world has been affected by the coronavirus, he said “Different countries around the world are searching for a vaccine for the coronavirus. I’m glad to hear that Russia has recently had a successful test. ”
He expressed confidence that the vaccine would soon be soon recognized by the World Health Organization.
Likewise, Chairman Timilsina thanked the Russian government for taking care of the Nepali community in Russia.
He said that Nepali students have benefited from Russia’s support for the development of skilled manpower in the fields of medicine, engineering and industry and the scholarships it has been providing.
Recalling the visits between the Parliamentary Delegations of Nepal and Russia, Chairman Timilsina expressed his confidence that the Parliamentary Friendship Group of the two countries would further deepen the relationship between the Parliaments and the people of the two countries.
Stating that partnership is needed at the bilateral and multilateral levels to promote the interests of the two countries, he said that there is ample potential for trade and investment in Nepal, especially in the areas of energy, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development.
During the meeting, Ambassador Novikov said that Nepal and Russia have enjoyed cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations and Russia was ready to provide necessary financial and technical assistance for Nepal’s development.
He said that the coronavirus vaccine developed by Russia has started receiving orders from all over the world, adding that he would facilitate the quick availability of the vaccines if Nepal wished.
“The vaccine, developed by Russia will hit the world market in November. It can be made available in Nepal by giving priority,” said Ambassador Novikov.
