KATHMANDU:  After being relegated to minority in party power struggle, Prime Minister KP Oli has proposed Madhav Kumar Nepal to become the future chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

According to sources, Prime Minister Oli proposed Nepal to become the party chairman through the upcoming general convention of the party.

Oli is forced to propose Nepal as the future chairman of the party after then CPN-UML senior leaders Jhala Nath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam and Madhav Nepal supported Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a Standing Committee (SC) member close to Nepal said.

Nepal, who lent support to Oli following party unification, has been dissatisfied with the Prime Minister over his arbitrary modus operandi of running the government.  Nepal has been accusing Oli of giving dual responsibilities to the leaders loyal to Oli, picking federal and provincial ministers without his consultation.

Earlier, Nepal had written a note of decent in a Secretariat meeting to protest the decision after Oli allocated dual responsibilities to provincial committee members.  The Oli-Nepal bond had aggravated since then.

Party Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam also stopped supporting Oli after he failed to implement the decision to appoint Gautam as a lawmaker.

Oli is learnt to have quit one of his posts after being relegated to minority in Secretariat, Standing Committee and Central Committee.

The Secretariat meeting has been called for 3 pm today to thrash out the intraparty feud today.
