Unity Life International’s honcho dies in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Unity Life International’s main operator Bishnu Chhetri has died of multiple organ failure at Basundhara based Green City Hospital, Kathmandu on Sunday.

According to the hospital sources, the Unity Life honcho was brought to Green City Hospital four days ago when he showed no health improvements while undergoing treatment in Medicity Hospital.

“Bishnu Chhetri, 46 was brought here from Medicity on Monday, he died of multi-organ failure,” Lok Bahadur Tandon, President of Green City Hospital said on Sunday, “He died at 9 am on Sunday.”

According to Tandon, he was admitted to Medicity after jaundice got worse and the family had brought him to Green City citing no improvement there.

He said that Chhetri was unconscious when he was brought there.

According to hospital sources he had multi-organ failure induced by excessive drinking.

“He had severe problems on liver, kidney, and heart,” the source said.

One of the people held mastermind behind the Unity scams, Chhetri had passed some years in jail before Patan High Court offered him the clean chit in the scandal.

The Union Life International  had duped Rs3.79 billion from 368,710 people both in the country and overseas, offering two illegal “assurance” and health schemes and Chhetri was held responsible.

According to his close acquaintance he was shattered socially and financially even after the release and had taken to excessive drinking since then.

“He was upset and felt shattered socially and financially after the release and had taken to excessive drinking,” the source said, “He died of multiorgan failure due to excessive drinking despite the health hazard like jaundice.”
