JANAKPURDHAM: Failing to make a unanimous decision on the name of the Province-2, lawmakers of the Provincial Assembly have decided to finalize the name through a secret ballot.

The provincial assembly, meanwhile, has rejected the proposal of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to settle on ‘Janaki’ as the name of the province.

Likewise, the proposal of the Nepali Congress to finalize the name ‘Mithila-Bhojpura’ was also rejected by the provincial assembly. NC’s proposal could garner only 28 votes.

Earlier today, the Province-2 Assembly held a discussion to finalize its name and capital.

Saroj Kumar Yadav, Speaker of the Province, therefore, said that the name and capital would be decided by secret ballot.

Provincial lawmakers were allotted a 5-minutes-time to express their views before the polls began.

It should be noted that four parties from the Province-2 had earlier proposed three different names.

While the ruling Samajwadi Party and RJPN have proposed the name of the province to be ‘Madhesh Province’, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has proposed ‘Janaki’. Likewise, the Nepali Congress (NC) has proposed the name ‘Mithila-Bhojpura’.

The Samajbadi Party has 30 lawmakers, NCP has 32, RJPN 25, NC 19 and Nepal Sanghiya Samajbadi has one member in the Province 2 Assembly.
