Asian Highway connects Kakadvitta

KATHMANDU: Asian Highway has connected Kakadvitta, a major border point in eastern Nepal with India, after the construction of a six-lane Mechi bridge along the Nepal-India border.

The construction company has stated that the construction of the bridge, which has been officially started since 2017, has reached its final stage.

After the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi signed an agreement for the construction of the bridge in 2017, more than 90 percent of work of the bridge has been completed.

The 6-lane-wide, 675-meter-long bridge has been constructed at a cost of INR 1.37 billion funded by the Asian Development Bank.

Engineer Anup Saudin of the Road Division Office, Damak said that the construction work of about one kilometer approach road under the Asian Highway has reached the final stage even though the construction of the bridge is almost complete.
