KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has summoned the Standing Committee meeting of the party on Wednesday.

Standing Committee Member Haribol Gajurel said the meeting has been slated for 11 am on Wednesday at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi.

“It has been informed that the meeting will be held at the party headquarters tomorrow,” Gajurel told Khabarhub.

20 Standing Committee members had handed over a memorandum to Chairpersons KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda ‘to convene the meeting after the government introduced two controversial ordinances that were later withdrawn.

Following rounds of talks between dissenting leaders, a Secretariat meeting of the party on May 2 had decided to summon the Standing Committee meeting on May 7.

A day earlier, a meeting of the Secretariat was held to decide the agenda of the Standing Committee meeting.

However, when the dispute escalated in the Secretariat meeting, the meeting ended without any conclusion after Chairman Oli walked out of the meeting that pushed the Standing Committee meeting into uncertainty.

Leaders of the top rung are at loggerheads after PM Oli brought two ordinances (later revoked) three weeks back in an effort to secure his position as the PM and to further strengthen his grip in the party.
