‘Govt concealed truth about Chinese workers of testing positive for coronavirus’

KATHMANDU: Coming down heavily on the government for concealing the information about Chinese workers at the Pokhara International Airport being affected with coronavirus, a lawmaker of the Samajbadi Party has demanded that the government bring out the truth.

Lawmaker Pradeep Yadav, speaking during today’s zero hour of the House of Representatives (HoR), demanded the government to inform the truth to the House.

It should be noted that Khabarhub had on Wednesday carried a story saying that the construction work of the Pokhara International Airport was affected by the sudden illness of two Chinese workers.

“The government has concealed information about the Chinese laborers working at the Pokhara International Airport being tested positive for coronavirus,” he said, adding, “The government now needs to furnish clarification on the issue.”

Lawmaker Yadav further said, “I have heard that some 8-9 Chinese workers have been quarantined in Pokhara. Nepali workers at the construction felt their health at high risks and stopped working citing the health risks.”

It should be noted that the construction work of the Pokhara International Airport has been affected by the sudden illness of two Chinese workers.

Two of the Chinese workers who have returned to Nepal last week got sick. Meanwhile, citing health risks, Nepali workers blamed the authority for manipulating the facts.

After the protest of the Nepali workers, the China CMC Engineering had agreed to put the sick workers in isolation.

As many as 71 Chinese had come to Nepal for the airport construction project on March 4, 5, and 6 this year.

Although nine of the workers in the team are the ones who had been to China on vacation, 62 have come for the first time. There are more than 190 Chinese working in the project.
