KATHMANDU: With the coronavirus gaining foothold on every continent except for Antarctica, international job markets have also been seriously hit due to the novel virus.
Labor destination countries have started facing economic crisis on the one hand while they have put a travel ban from Nepal to their countries to control the spread of coronavirus on the other hand.
Similarly, labor destination countries including Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Dubai are preparing to suspend travel from Nepal to their countries.
According to Megh Nath Bhurtel, the secretary at the Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs’ Association, said the demand of Nepali workers has gone down by 75 percent, of late.
Meanwhile, the interview slated for selecting Nepali labors has been postponed due to COVID-19 as it has already spread to 123 countries. The novel virus has claimed over 4,600 people globally.
A significant portion of Nepal’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) depends on the remittance sent by over 4 million Nepali youths who are working in foreign countries, currently.
