Dav Whatmore likely to be Nepali cricket Head Coach

KATHMANDU: The Nepali cricket team has been without a Head Coach for the last one year.

The then Coach Umesh Patwal had resigned after the first series of the ICC World Cup League 2 in Kathmandu.

Then, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had started the process of looking for a new coach. However, even after more than 10 months, the coach has not been appointed.

CAN has made public the application for the selection of the coach and sent the names of the last three to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Among the three selected by CAN are Dav Whatmore, Apoorva Desai, and Neil MacRae. Among the names sent to the ICC, the national cricket governing body has given priority to Sri Lankan-born Australian player and Coach Dav Whatmore.

A CAN source said, “We have to bring in a good Coach. So, it is taking the time. Some things are not as easy as we thought,” the source told Khabarhub, “We are trying to bring Whatmore to Nepal and working to make it happen.”

Whatmore is a Sri Lanka born Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He was the Head coach of Sri Lanka when Sri Lanka won the Cricket World Cup in 1996. He is an old boy of the prestigious Royal College Colombo.

A right-handed batsman, Whatmore played seven Test matches for Australia in 1979, and one One Day International in 1980. At first-class level, he scored over 6,000 runs for Victoria.
