KATHMANDU: Lawmakers on Monday asked the government to deploy Nepali Army to the encroached Lipu Lekh area to protect Nepali territory.
Speaking at the International Relation Committee in the presence of Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and Land Reforms Minister Padma Kumar Aryal, lawmaker Prem Prasad Tulachan demanded the government to send army to the disputed area immediately.
“It is high time that the government sent army to the encroached area immediately,” Tulachan said, adding, “The government needs to initiate investigation.”
“This is not the time to pinpoint at one another but take a joint initiative to resolve the issue,” Tulachan said.
Lawmaker Chand Tara Kumari asked the government to hold diplomatic talks with the southern neighbor to resolve the dispute once and for all. Kumari also demanded that the government deployed army in the disputed area.
Lawmaker Bhim Rawal asked the government to send a team of experts to the Lipu Lekh area to analyze the latest situation, and publish a new map of Nepal.
“The current government cannot shy away from taking initiatives to resolve the issue,” Rawal said raising concern over the encroachment of Nepali land, which he said is against the international law.
Uma Regmi, lawmaker, also urged the government to publish a new map of Nepal.
