KATHMANDU: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Thakur Prasad Gyawali has been appointed 27th Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nepal Police.

A meeting of Council of Ministers on Tuesday appointed Gyawali to the post.

Who is newly-appointed IGP Gyawali?

Gyawali was born in a middle-income family in the current Jhimruk Rural Municipality-1 on October 14, 1965, to father Narayan Prasad Gyawali and mother Sumitra Gyawali.

Gyawali, who joined the police force on July 9, 1990, after completing his Bachelor’s level as a Police Inspector, got promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police on May 1, 2001.

Gyawali was promoted to Superintendent of Police on November 18, 2009 and to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on July 12, 2016. On October 14, 2018, he got promoted to Deputy Inspector General of Police.

While his tenure as SP, Gyawali worked in Dang, Bara and Jhapa among other districts and also at Nepal Police Headquarters. Gyawali also holds an experience of working at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

While as SSP, Gyawali worked at the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police and IGP Secretariat and Nepalgunj-based training center of Nepal Police.

Gyawali, who recently served as Province 1 Police Chief as DIG has made his reputation in the law enforcement agency for his undisputed image. He is considered as a professional and honest official.
