Govt decides to observe National Democracy Day in grand manner



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to observe the 70th National Democracy Day in a grand manner with the ownership and involvement of the people at large.

The meeting of the National Democracy Day Main Celebration Committee today decided to form various sub-committees to make preparations for the event to be marked on February 19.

The meeting was held in presence of the Committee Chair Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Accordingly, the publicity sub-committee has been formed under the chair of Minister of Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota, state decoration and management sub-committee led by mayor of Kathmandu Bidya Sundar Shakya and ground, drill and exercise management sub-committee under the chair of CDO of Kathmandu Janak Raj Dahal.

The celebrations will take place for three days on February 18-2- 7, said Home Secretary Maheswar Neupane. A special function will be held on the main day i.e. Falgun 7 in the presence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari at Tundikhel.

February 18 is observed as the national democracy day in commemoration of the establishment of democracy in the country, following the end of the 104-year-old autocratic Rana regime in 2007 B.S. (1951).
