KATHMANDU: High Court Patan has remanded Naresh Kumar Thapa, the younger brother of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, in custody, reversing the decision of Kathmandu District Court.

Hearing the case, a joint bench of Chief Judge Nahakul Subedi and Judge Shreeman Kumar Gautam remanded Thapa in custody for further investigation.

A case had been filed at High Court Patan against Thapa on the charge of extorting businessmen in cahoots with a criminal group.

On September 18, a single bench of Judge Medani Paudel of Kathmandu District Court had released Thapa on Rs 100,000-bail.

Six people including Thapa had been accused of extorting businessmen in cahoots with Samirman Singh Basnet, the murder-accused of Chairman of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal Sharad Kumar Gauchan.
