Woman denied admission in a govt hospital dies of labor pain in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR: A woman having labor pain breathed her last when a government hospital reportedly denied admission to her in Biratnagar last night.

Thirty-year-old Bimala Rishived died as her family did not have money to afford to take her to a private hospital, her neighbors said.

Bimala’s family was residing at a landless squatters’ camp.

The family even could not manage cost for her funeral. Nepali Congress (NC) provincial lawmaker Kedar Karki gave away the money for the last rites.

According to her neighbors, Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar denied to admit her saying that the hospital could not perform a C-section on her.
