Chinese media retweets on Mt Everest; says it lies on China-Nepal border

KATHMANDU: China Global Television Network (CGTN), which had earlier on May 2 tweeted that Mount Chomolungma, popularly known as Mount Everest, is located in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, has posted a tweet saying that the world’s highest peak lies on the China-Nepal border.

It has deleted its previous tweet. The new tweet goes on saying: “An extraordinary sun halo was spotted on May 1 in the skies over Mount Qomolangma, the world’s highest peak, located on the China-Nepal border”.

The Chinese media was compelled to remove its previous tweet after protests by social media users.

The tweet had come amid furor over India’s inauguration of link road to Lipu Lekh in Nepali territory.
