Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll hits 614 with 14 more fatalities



KATHMANDU: Nepal recorded 14 new coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 614, the Ministry of Health and Population stated.

Kathmandu Valley recorded six coronavirus-related deaths.

According to the Ministry, 12 men and two women have died of the pandemic.

A 45-year-old man in Sunsari, two men aged 20 and 72 years in Morang, 71 years in Sarlahi, two men aged 48 and 90 years in Kathmandu,  two men aged 43 and 49 years in Lalitpur, 68 years in Bhaktapur, 77 years in Makwanpur, 36 years in Nawalparasi East and 57 years in Rupandehi died of the coronavirus.

Likewise, a 68-year-old woman in Kathmandu and 31 years in Dhading succumbed to the pandemic.

Nepal had recorded 10 COVID-19 deaths on Friday.

The country recorded a total of 5,008 new cases of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours in the highest single-day spike.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, with the recent data, the total number of cases reached 105,684 in the country as of Saturday afternoon.

Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor said that altogether 19,320 sample tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours.

According to Dr. Gautam, 1,229 individuals got discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours while the number of people winning the battle against the virus reached 74,252 in the country. Nepal’s recovery rate stands at 70.2 percent, he added.

Nepal currently has 30,818 active cases, he said.

Dr. Gautam stated that a total of 13,654 people are in institutional isolation and 17,164 others are in home isolation facilities.
