POKHARA: The 62-year-old pastor, who claimed that his clan would get redemption from coronavirus pandemic has died of COVID-19.
The pastor believed to have been working to spread Christianity in the town through his Ishworiya Marg Bhajan Mandal Sachchai Kendra, an NGO established for the same died on Saturday.
According to hospital sources, he had reached the Paschimanchal Hospital, also known as Pokhara Health Science Academy, on July 31 for health check-up with flu and fever symptoms.
The man who was also the head of a Christian missionary organization in Pokhara, used to run his religious center at Lamachour Pokhara.
The deceased earlier had claimed to ward off coronavirus via his prayers and had been offering ‘sermons’ and hymns for the redemption.
His Lamachour-based residence used to be crowded with the devotees who trusted him and felt safe as the prayer was going on.
“The 62-year-old man who had come here with coronavirus like symptoms died of it on the 8th day of admission here,” the hospital source said. “He was also a diabetic patient and passed away on Saturday.”
Six of his devotees who tested COVID-19 positive are also undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Shova Mohan Poudel, the Ward Chairperson of Pokhara Municipality-19 said that the deceased was found coronavirus positive on August 1.
Later, 67 persons coming into the pastor’s contact were tested positive for coronavirus.
After the death of Sachchai Kendra the residence of Lamchour, Batulechour and Purunchour are panicked and Lamachour Chowk, Bhaktipath, Sahar Dahar, Bhandari Dahar, Gairi Khor, have been sealed from Monday.
He is the first coronavirus death case of Pokhara Metropolitan City; Gandaki Province has seen 5 COVID-19 deaths till date.
