KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has invited district party presidents for a breakfast meeting at his Budanilakantha residence at 10 am on Thursday to discuss contentious issues.

Some 37 district presidents, who have held a series of meetings in Kathmandu alleging party President Deuba of taking unilateral decisions, are hopeful that the party leadership would address their demands.

The meeting that ended on Wednesday decided to submit a memorandum to party President Deuba and party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel at the party office on Thursday.

“We have decided to submit the memorandum tomorrow by inviting both Deuba and Poudel at the party central office in Sanepa,” Jagadish Narsingh KC, Nuwakot district party president said.

He added that they would pressurize the party leadership to review the decision of the party’s central working committee meeting held on December 27, 2019.

The party’s central working committee on December 27 had decided to hold the next general convention of the party from February 19-22, 2021.

Meanwhile, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat confirmed with Khabarhub that party President Deuba has invited party presidents of 37 districts for a breakfast meeting tomorrow.

The meeting has been called to narrow down the intra-party differences that have taken a new height in recent times, said Dr. Mahat.

The main opposition party, NC, is currently caught in a mess as Deuba extended his term by another one year until March 3, 2020, while he announced the date for the next general convention without consulting the disgruntled faction led by party senior leader Poudel.

Party leaders, including Saud, Chandra Bhandari, Gagan Thapa, Guru Ghimire, Bhimsma Raj Aangdambe, Govinda Shah, Dhan Raj Gurung, and Surendra Pandey had on Tuesday and Wednesday held separate meetings with Deuba and dissatisfied leader Ram Chandra Poudel in an effort to end differences between the two senior leaders.
