KATHMANDU: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has urged the government to expand the deadline for tax payment by another 2 months.

Citing that most of the districts including Kathmandu Valley have been under lockdown and prohibitory orders till date, NCC has asked the government to extend the deadline.

Writing a letter to the Secretary of the Department of Revenues, NCC President Rajesh Kaji Shrestha has informed that industrialists and entrepreneurs are not in the position to submit the revenue in the current adverse situation.

“As the prohibitory orders have impacted the transaction worse than during lockdown, the documentation is likely to take longer period,” President Shrestha said adidng, “Hence, we urge the government to extend the deadline for at least 2 more months.”

He has further explained that the ledgers and other documents have been in the transaction sites and the prohibitory orders forbid the staffs reach there, hence the industrialist and entrepreneurs are not in the position to pay the tax within the formerly set deadline.

Shrestha has reminded that the private sector has always been affirmative towards their tax duties and has requested the government to be more liberal enough to understand the harsh situations the business sector has been due to the pandemic.
