Around 1,288 people held for violating lockdown

KATHMANDU: Police have held over 1,288 people, including 1,040 male and 248 female, from different places of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur for violating the lockdown on Sunday morning.

They were arrested till 8 am this morning, according to DIG Bishworaj Pokharel at Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari.

Police will hold the lockdown violators at the same place for two hours and send them back to home after providing necessary advice for not breaching the lockdown again.

According to Pokharel, police adopted the strategy as taking the arrestees on a vehicle could increase the risk of COVID-19 infection.

Kathmandu police have used devices to arrest the wrongdoers without directly touching them.

The device is called ‘multi-functional arrest and rescue device’. It helps police arrest criminals from maintaining proper distance.

DIG Pokharel argued that the device is useful in vulnerable situations as it could prevent police from direct touch and transmission of communicable diseases.

Likewise, police have also held some 62 vehicles this morning.
