KATHMANDU: The total number of COVID-19 cases in the world has crosses 1.2 million as countries such as the United States, Spain and Italy continued their struggles in battling extreme virus crises.

While Spain is extending the countrywide state of emergency until April 26, over the Atlantic ocean US President Donald Trump estimates many more victims will be registered before the pandemic decays.

When it comes to the figures, 64, 702 coronavirus-related deaths were registered on the global level so far, while at the same time, 228, 924 people recovered from the disease according to John Hopkins University’s tally.

The U.S. became the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic after reported cases surpassed those officially reported by China. Since the novel coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 was first detected in the U.S. on Jan. 20, it has spread to at least 305,820 people in the U.S., across all 50 states.

Of the reported cases in the U.S., 6,058 people have died from the virus, with more than 3,500 of those deaths in New York, 846 in New Jersey, 479 in Michigan, 409 in Louisiana and 295 related deaths reported in Washington state. Worldwide, nearly 1.2 million cases have been reported and more than 64,000 related deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins virus dashboard.

Just nine states have governors who have held out on issuing state-wide stay-at-home orders despite calls to do so. These states include: Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, according to ABC News.
