KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has asked the government to demolish the Republic Memorial constructed at the Narayanhiti Palace in Kathmandu.

He suggested the government to construct it somewhere else.

Speaking at the International Relations Committee meeting on Wednesday, leader Nepal argued that Narayanhiti Palace was not the appropriate place to construct the republic memorial.

It should be noted that the government had constructed the memorial by spending a total of Rs 450 million to commemorate people who contributed to the establishment of the republic.

It was inaugurated by President Bidya Devi Bhandari last year.
