KATHMANDU: Supreme Court (SC) has directed the concerned authority not to reveal the name, address and the identity of the people suffering from coronavirus or those who have lost lives from it.

Citing that the disclosure of personal information of the deceased people could put the lives of their relatives and dependent at risk and further traumatize them, the Supreme Court has directed not to reveal the details of the coronavirus victims.

“The fear of discrimination and exclusion shown towards the COVID victims may provoke the coronavirus suspects to hide their sickness which ultimately may expose the larger community to the pandemic transmission risk,” the Supreme Court order reads, “Rather than provoking the discriminatory activities, the responsible authority should play a conducive role in encouraging the victims’ family to live a life of dignity.”

The mandamus issued to the government has directed the government not to let the names and details of the coronavirus victims go public in various social media, newspapers and news portals and stop it instantly if such activities are still going on.
