TANZANIA: Tanzanian journalist Erick Kabendera was ‘arrested’ at his home on Monday evening in a Dar es Salaam suburb by a group of people claiming to be police officers.

Erick, a freelancer, was taken to Oysterbay Police Station where he was questioned. He writes for various local and international publications.

According to his relative Erick was whisked away forcefully by at least half a dozen men in a vehicle without producing their identity cards. The relative, who insisted anonymity, said that the people took Erick and his wife’s mobile phones.

Erick’s wife Loy confirmed the incident and said that her husband was ‘arrested’ in front of neighbors who were not even allowed to take photos. (Agencies)
