KATHMANDU: The Mungling section along the Prithivi Highway will be closed for 14 days starting Thursday (May 30).
The road will be shut to allow a smooth construction of the arch bridge above the Trishuli river linking Chitwan and Tanahun districts, read a notice issued by the bridge planning mid-area sector number two.
Construction of the bridge has reached the final stage, and the construction of roadside walls and blacktopping the road is underway, said the contractor. The road shutdown schedule is from 11 am to 3 pm and from 9 pm to 2 am. Despite repeated extension of the deadline to complete the project, the construction is yet to be completed citing various reasons.
The last extended deadline is expiring on May 31. Construction of the 160 meters long and 11 meters wide bridge started in 2071 BS with an estimated budget of Rs 120 million funded by the World Bank.
