In a bid to unify the two parties — Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Party and Upendra Yadav-led Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum – leaders of both parties have intensified their last-ditch efforts wooing one another.
Cross-party efforts have been heading towards a positive direction, leaders of both parties have claimed.
There are a couple of technical issues that need to be resolved when it comes to the issue of unification with Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum (SSF), according to Shrestha.
“I would say that cross-party efforts are showing positive signs,” Ganga Shrestha of Naya Shakti Party told Khabarhub while hinting at the ongoing talks with some like-minded parties, including the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum.
There are a couple of technical issues that need to be resolved when it comes to the issue of unification with Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum (SSF), according to Shrestha.
Ashok Rai, leader of SSF, confirmed the unification bid with Dr. Bhattari’s party, which he claimed has been a ‘necessity’ between like-minded political parties.
Chairman of SSF, Upendra Yadav, who is also Deputy Prime Minister in the KP Oli-led government, is engaged in ‘wide discussion’ with Dr. Bhattarai.
“We are almost at the final stage for unification. Among a few, almost all issues have been agreed upon,” an SSF leader close to Yadav told Khabarhub.
However, it has been learned that Dr. Bhattarai has been adamant to his stance that Yadav should walk out of the government. “Chairman Yadav said he would discuss Dr. Bhattarai’s condition with his party leaders,” the leader said.
In fact, Yadav is set to float the idea at the party’s central committee meeting scheduled for May 4 in Janakpur. “Whatever decision the central committee gives would be acceptable to the party leadership,” the SSF leader said.
The SSF is also holding its general convention on May 12 and 13 in Janakpur. Chairman Yadav is waiting for the central committee’s ‘green signal’ for his unification bid with Naya Shakti Party.
Sources have claimed that Dr. Bhattarai and Yadav have agreed on a system with two party-chairmen even though the parties had agreed to include Ashok Rai also in the leadership.
According to the source, Dr. Bhattarai was positive to remain as the ‘supreme leader’ of the unified party with Yadav and Rai as the party chairmen. However, Dr. Bhattarai said he would rather be happy to become the party chairman rather than a supreme leader.
Meanwhile, the Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) leaders are equally passionate about making party unity with Dr. Bhattarai’s party rather than with Yadav’s SSF. “Most of the RJP leaders are skeptical about making unity with Yadav’s party blaming Yadav’s lackadaisical attitude,” a source told Khabarhub.
Rajendra Mahato, a member of the RJP presidium said RJP is holding informal talks with Dr. Bhattarai’s party for unification. “We have only exchanged letters,” he said.
