KATHMANDU: The Bhairahawa-based Gautam Buddha International Airport construction has reported over 84 percent of work progress.

Preparations have been intensified to operate the airport, a project of national pride, within March 2020.

So far, 84.25 percent of the construction works have been completed. Installation of technical equipment and the finishing works of the terminal building are being carried out actively.

Likewise, the construction of infrastructures has been expedited with the aim of operating the airport in the context of the Visit Nepal Year 2020.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the regulatory body, has plans to start commercial flights three months after the completion of the construction of the infrastructures.

A spokesperson at Tribhuvan International Airport (TAI), Pratap Babu Tiwari has been transferred to CAAN central office to make necessary facilitation for the preparation for the prompt operation of the airport.
