Only 27 per cent of Tarkeshwor housing reconstruction completed

KATHMANDU: Even after four years since the devastating earthquake of April 2015, only 27 per cent of private housing reconstruction of Tarakeshwor municipality has been completed.

Senior engineer at the municipality Shashi Gurung said that lack of clear policy in demolition and reconstruction of the damaged houses built on Guthi land, lack of budget and land ownership certificates have caused the delay in reconstruction.

Among the total 6,174 damages houses, only 1,652 beneficiaries of the grant have reconstructed their houses, according to the municipality.

Around 5,062 beneficiaries have so far received the first tranche of the housing grant, while 2,085 have received the second installments, according to Gurung.
