KATHMANDU: We have rarely heard about the complaints of snakebites in the Kathmandu Valley. But now a days the number of snakebite patients has increased of late. Over 10 to 12 snakebite patients come to Teku Hospital for treatment, according to Dr Sher Bahadur, infectious disease specialist at Shukraraaj Tropical & Infectious Disease Hospital.
According to him, over 22 different types of snakes are found in the capital. Those found in the capital are king cobra, cobra, muga, harep, harhara, gurwe, dhaman, chichinde, sirise among others.
Of them king cobra, cobra and muga are the most poisonous. Such types of snakes are found in Chandragiri, Swyambhu and Bhaktapur.
Antivenom has been imported from India.
