KATHMANDU: Outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been remanded in police custody for seven more days starting from today, according to the decision of the Kathmandu District Court.
A single bench of Judge Sudarshanraj Pandey on Thursday took the decision to this effect to carry out further investigation into the case.
Earlier, the court had extended the remand for five days in connection with the alleged attempt to rape case filed against Mahara by victim Roshani Shahi, a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.
Mahara, who has been facing charges over sexual misconduct, was produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday.
Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping Shahi.
Mahara is currently admitted to the Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital after complaints of hypertension.
