Smuggled goods worth over Rs 700,000 seized



KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have confiscated imported clothes being smuggled to Kathmandu from Butwal in a huge quantity in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Metropolitan Police Range, Nagdhunga seized those clothes amounting to over Rs 700,000 being ferried to Kathmandu without paying the due customs duty in a bus, Lu 2 Kha 2011.

Metropolitan Police Circle, Thankot Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kumar Bikram Thapa said that the clothes were left unattended in the bus. The clothes comprised 355 sets of kurta salwar, 115 sets of shawl, 560 pieces of tops kurti among others.

The market price of those traditional ladies’ apparels was evaluated at Rs 729,000. The seized goods have been sent to the Inland Revenue Department for further investigation, according to police.
