KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said the government and party are working in coordination.
Acknowledging that some coordination issues have emerged because decisions sometimes have to be made quickly, Lamichhane said efforts would be made to improve coordination in the coming days.
He said Prime Minister Balendra Shah and he were serious about making coordination between the party and government more effective, adding that there had been no serious problems in their coordination so far.
“The party, government and organisation need to sit together and coordinate with one another. Coordination may have been weak in some cases because decisions sometimes have to be made quickly. Information sharing and cooperation are taking place between the government and party. We are also serious about making this more effective,” Lamichhane said at the Secretariat meeting on Sunday.
He said there had also been complaints that some decisions were made without being discussed at the party Secretariat meeting, but explained that some issues could not be discussed because decisions had to be taken urgently.
“There have been instances where decisions were made without being decided by the party Secretariat. Many issues could not be discussed because they had to be addressed urgently. The government and party are working in coordination. If there are any such problems, you can also raise them,” he said.
Lamichhane said everyone needed to perform well in their respective areas and respect the public mandate.
“Everyone must work properly. We have received such a large public mandate. To respect this mandate, we must be disciplined and practical. I remain firm that decisions must be made thoughtfully and in the long-term interest of the country,” he said.
He said he had been playing a coordinating role among the party, government, organisation and lawmakers, while acknowledging that his own role could also be improved.
“I feel that I have been playing a role as a guardian for the party, government, organisation and lawmakers. In some situations, perhaps my role was greater than it should have been, and in others it may have been exercised where it was not necessary. We will improve that. The need for coordination between the party and government is clear to both the Prime Minister and me,” he said.
Discussion on UN General Assembly
The RSP said the absence of Prime Minister Shah from Sunday’s Secretariat meeting was not discussed.
As Prime Minister Shah is preparing to travel to attend the United Nations General Assembly, the meeting held a general discussion on suggestions the party could provide regarding issues to be raised there.
Lamichhane also informed the meeting that the party was discussing and providing suggestions on matters to be raised at the General Assembly.
Suggestion to work seriously on ‘right to recall’
At the meeting, Lamichhane urged party leaders to work on the “right to recall” issue in line with the party’s policies, principles and priorities.
He stressed that the task force led by General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya should work seriously while keeping the party’s interests in mind. The task force also held a meeting on Sunday.
Lamichhane said the party had been taking the issue seriously from the beginning by monitoring activities and work that were being carried out outside the party’s policies, principles and priorities, as well as problems arising in this regard.
He said effective implementation of the “right to recall” programme would help prevent problems within the party.
